I travel with Manitra whom as my private tour guide for 2 weeks to the east and southern Madagascar. I was lucky enough to visit Madagascar in March off season supposed to be raining but the only rain I encountered was obviously in the rain forest. I hired Tony and his driver Ray who were both very nice guys very respectful and very knowledgeable you can tell that they are passionate about their country. It was easy communication and prompt and even when I changed the trip at the last minute this was efficiently handled. The hotels were chosen by us both in the end through my research and Tony’s knowledge the majority were great value and comfort for a good price.

Perhaps one of my favorite experiences of Madagascar was our visit to Betany fishing village, which is a short canoe ride across the water from Morondava. It was interesting to discover the way of life for Malagasy people living on the coast. People here were very friendly and we got to see their homes and the way they fish and live off the water. The southern and western coasts are the driest parts of the country. Madagascar is world-famous for its lemurs—primates that look something like a cat crossed with a squirrel and a dog. Madagascar is home to nearly 60 types of lemurs, ranging in size from the 1 ounce pygmy mouse lemur to the 15lb Indri. These animals are unique to the island and display a range of interesting behaviors from singing like a whale to sashaying across the sand like a ballet dancer . As a result of the Madagascar’s long isolation from neighboring continents, this exotic is home to an abundance of plants and animals found nowhere else on Earth.
